Michelangelo’s David

Michelangelo became famous early, at the age of 23 he was considered to be the greatest sculptor in Italy. The Florentine City Council asked him to make an enormous marble statue of David, 19 feet high. So Michelangelo started the work. For the whole three years he locked himself in his workshop. When the statue was finished, Michelangelo considering his David a symbol of Republic, insisted on putting it in front of the Palazo Vecchio. Forty men during five days were moving the statue.
